Hotel Cipriani buys historic buildings in VeniceWednesday, May 30, 2007
The legendary Hotel Cipriani in Venice has recently purchased three architecturally historic interconnecting buildings on the island of Giudecca in order to create a number of extra meeting rooms and to enlarge the very successful Cip's Club restaurant, which opened last year. Called 'I Granai della Repubblica' or the Granaries of the Republic, the buildings are located across the lagoon opposite the Salute and St. Mark's Square, next to Hotel Cipriani's two annexe buildings, the Palazzo Vendramin and the Palazzetto Nani Barbaro. Constructed of solid brick in the early 19th century, the granaries are built over the ruins of Palazzo Dandolo and at 1,000m were possibly the largest storage space in the whole of Venice at the height of its power as a republic.
